As we host this blog, we want to make it as easy as possible for you to find material and resources that will be helpful to you. One of the ways that we are going to do this is by developing a few different ‘streams’, each of which will have a particular focus – and one of these is called ‘Thinking Theology’.

In this stream we will be exploring what the Bible has to say about poverty, compassion and justice, and what this means for us as Christians. We will be thinking about theology, and thinking theologically about the work that we do and the way that we do it.

Our topics will include the nature of mission, the role of the church in the world, and what being a disciple of Jesus means for the way we live and work. For example, at the moment my work at Tearfund involves reading and thinking about what the Bible has to say about peace and reconciliation. I am also exploring how Christians can work alongside people of other faiths to see transformation in our communities. I will be sharing some of my thoughts, and also introducing some of the other theologians and Bible scholars I have met and work with. They will be sharing their ideas here, too.

We will be reviewing and commenting on books that we think are useful, and reflecting on where the Bible speaks into current issues. We will be sharing resources that we have found helpful, such as Bible studies and prayer guides, and writing about the things that we have learned from others at workshops and conferences. Whether you are involved in church ministry, working for an NGO or studying theology, this space is for you.
