Tearfund is committed to developing and delivering high-quality learning events in partnership with our in-country partners and networks. Our international gatherings bring together individuals, churches and organisations to consider and learn about Christian development work. They provide a space to reflect on what the Bible says about poverty and the nature of mission, and give delegates the opportunity to network and learn from each other.
We run two different types of gatherings: Thinking Theology gatherings and Compassion and Justice gatherings. You can find out more about these below, together with information about our previous and upcoming events.
Our Thinking Theology gatherings are designed to support theologians, church leaders and other Christian leaders working in relief and development. These conferences give delegates the chance to reflect on the Bible and be inspired to let God’s word shape their work. They provide a space for people to think about the nature of mission and what being disciples of Jesus means for the way we work, lead and deal with difficult issues.
Whether you are involved in church ministry, leading a Christian NGO or studying theology, our Thinking Theology gatherings are for you!
Compassion and Justice
‘Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.’ (Isaiah 1:17)
How often do we stop, look around and wish we had the answer? The answer that would give every child access to education or bring an end to human trafficking. The answer that would see the church helping whole communities to realise their God-given potential.
Does it feel too vast? Too difficult?
Tearfund hosts Compassion and Justice gatherings in collaboration with Micah Network, Call2All and YWAM. These conferences create a space for delegates to hear what God is doing through ministries around the world. They enable participants to hear his call, share his vision and be equipped to take action in their settings.
The gatherings started with the Call2Compassion and Justice gathering in Mumbai in 2013. Last June we hosted another conference in Durban. Our next Compassion and Justice gatherings will be in Uganda and Egypt.
Compassion and Justice gatherings consist of teaching, worship and workshops. Speakers share their hearts, experiences and ministries, inspiring participants to take new ideas, models and skills away with them to develop and apply.
We also make time for delegates to visit and engage with the work of a local ministry. This enables participants to observe proven models for action and take away some core principles, ideas and lessons to apply in their own contexts.
