Tearfund is committed to developing and delivering high-quality learning events in partnership with our in-country partners and networks. Our international gatherings bring together individuals, churches and organisations to consider and learn about Christian development work. They provide a space to reflect on what the Bible says about poverty and the nature of mission, and give delegates the opportunity to network and learn from each other.
We run two different types of gatherings: Thinking Theology gatherings and Global Forum gatherings. You can find out more about these below, together with information about our previous and upcoming events.
Thinking Theology gatherings
Our Thinking Theology gatherings are designed to support theologians, church leaders and other Christian leaders working in relief and development. These conferences give delegates the chance to reflect on the Bible and be inspired to let God’s word shape their work. They provide a space for people to think about the nature of mission and what being disciples of Jesus means for the way we work, lead and deal with difficult issues.
Whether you are involved in church ministry, leading a Christian NGO or studying theology, our Thinking Theology gatherings are for you!
Our Global Forums are invite-only events which gather 60 influential strategic thinkers, church leaders and emerging theologians from around the world for an in-depth discussion on a particularly topic area. These high-level gatherings create a space for reflection and discussion with an aim to collectively come up with strategies, approaches and thinking on the theme, taking into account the global knowledge and theological perspective present in the room.
The gatherings started with the Global Forum on Church and Poverty in 2018, which focussed on the theme of Jubilee.
Compassion and Justice
In the past Tearfund hosted Compassion and Justice gatherings in collaboration with Micah Network, Call2All and YWAM. These conferences created a space for delegates to hear what God is doing through ministries around the world. They enabled participants to hear his call, share his vision and be equipped to take action in their settings.
The gatherings started with the Call2Compassion and Justice gathering in Mumbai in 2013 with the last one taking place in 2015.
