Since 2008, Tearfund has promoted the use of stabilised soil blocks (SSB) in an effort to reduce deforestation caused by the excessive use of firewood in brick kilns.

This paper shares experiences and lessons learnt from Darfur, Sudan, where Tearfund has used SSBs to build latrines at schools, clinics and mosques.
