Advocacy in Malawi: Building bridges between local communities and national inclusive policies and practices

Tearfund partner, Eagles, secures better support for the vulnerable during Covid-19

2020 Available in English

Many rural communities had limited access to basic supplies and good information during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Eagles operated a radio programme to raise awareness in these communities, and one caller highlighted the difficulties experienced by people with visual impairments.

From this, Eagles:

  • reached out to local government officials
  • met with Torch Trust for the Blind, a local specialist organisation
  • petitioned the government for more funding
  • visited pastors of rural churches to encourage support for the most vulnerable in their communities.
