Practical, discussion-based learning on community development for small groups

The aim of this guide is to raise awareness of:

  • the extent of post-harvest losses due to pests and diseases
  • the benefits of maintaining genetic variability and traditional crop varieties
  • grain banks
  • new concepts of food preservation and storage

Anticipated outcomes

  • local groups encouraged to try out a variety of ideas to improve grain storage
  • groups encouraged to discuss introducing the idea of grain banks to improve food security, either at local or community level
  • family diet and overall nutrition to be improved - the use of new techniques in preserving fruit and vegetables to be encouraged and implemented
  • the use of new food processing techniques such as making jams, chutneys and juices to be introduced
