Listening to and understanding young people – Activity

An opportunity for all ages to learn from the experiences and feelings of others

2015 Available in French, English and Portuguese

This activity gives younger and older people an opportunity to listen to each other’s experiences, hopes and fears, so that they can value each other’s views and perspectives.

Older people observe and listen to younger people as they respond to spoken statements and answer questions. Then the roles are reversed, with the younger people doing the listening.

The tool also encourages the community to learn the skill of ‘critical reflection’ so they can explore their own beliefs and cultural practices and begin to identify any they would like to change.
