Environmental resources are crucial to people’s lives, livelihoods, and cultural identity in Darfur, Sudan. The environment is a crucial part of the current conflict, as resources are being fought over and destroyed by the violence in the region. In addition to this, over the last three decades, demands have increased as the population has risen, and the resource base has been eroded.
This paper outlines the Sustainable Relief Management (SRM) framework, a 'do-no-harm' approach to resolving the humanitarian and environmental crisis in Darfur.
