Evidence-based resources helping communities change harmful gender norms and promote positive masculinities and gender equality.

These studies explore a Biblical understanding of gender equality and can be used by participants in the Transforming Masculinities programme. They can be used for individual study – however, we recommend using these studies as part of a group discussion in order to get the most out of them.

Bible studies included are:

  • Towards equitable and accountable marriages (Proverbs 31)
  • Positive masculinities (Luke 8:40-56)
  • Gender norms and societal expectations (Romans 16:1-6)
  • Gender and creation (Genesis 1-3)

These studies aim to:

  • Explore the biblical vision of equality between men and women
  • Discover possibilities about the roles of men and women according to Biblical teaching
  • Challenge negative masculinities which have been supposedly justified by different readings of the Bible
  • Reflect on how equal relationships between men and women can exist, even if practical roles look different to societal norms and expectations

These studies can be used alongside the Hand in Hand Bible study and the Transforming Masculinities manual.
